The 2005 Merlot Klipsun Vineyard is dark ruby in color with aromas of spice box, red currants, and cherry. The fruit is ripe, sweet, and mouth coating. This lengthy wine has enough structure to evolve for 1-2 years and will be at its best from 2010 to 2017.Since I saw him last year, Mike Januik has moved into a splendid new winery in Woodinville which he shares with Novelty Hill Winery for whom he makes the wines. A complete and expressive wine, with vibrant berry/cherry fruit, supple textures and a gentle hand with the oak. The tannins have been well managed and mediated; the wine is tannic but smooth with no roughness or excessively green flavors.
