Charlopin's 2006 Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice - from the large, well-know sector east of the route nationale that forms the back yard of his estate - is unusually creamy and sweetly-rich for its vintage, and has properly digested its 50% new wood (although I last tasted it prior to bottling), netting an impression of cinnamon-dusted, dark chocolate-covered cherries. The toasty, sweet aspects of the wine by no means preclude a hint of finishing refreshment. I would be inclined to enjoy this within 3-4 years. Philippe Charlopin is known for his outgoing personality, which applies also to the wines of his domaine spread over more than two dozen appellations, an astonishing nine of which are grand crus. Elevage is long here, and when I last tasted his 2006s with Charlopin in Spring 2008, none had yet been bottled.Various importers, including The Country Vintner, Ashland, VA 23005; tel.
