This stands out as one of the greatest Cotes du Rhone villages wines I have tasted. I am almost certain that with another year of bottle age it will merit an outstanding rating, which would put it in the same league as the great Cotes du Rhones from the likes of Fonsalette and Coudoulet. The black/purple color and huge bouquet of rich, super-ripe black-raspberries, spices and Provencal herbs combine to make this a real head-turner. In the mouth, this opulently rich, full-bodied, splendidly concentrated wine could easily be mistaken for a top cuvee of Gigondas or Chateauneuf du Pape. Approachable now, this well-balanced, large-scaled wine should drink beautifully for up to a decade. I should add that this Cotes du Rhone is made from a distinctive blend of 40% Grenache, 35% Mourvedre, 20% Syrah, and, interestingly, 5% white wine grapes, Roussanne and Clairette.
