The Franz Haas 2017 Alto Adige Lagrein Schweizer (packaged in a screwcap bottle) pours forth with an inky dark appearance. The bouquet is packed tight with black fruit aromas ranging from blackberry to dried plum and prune. There is a spicy element to the bouquet, with clove and cinnamon, that feels like it comes directly from the bounty and ripeness of the grape itself. The wine has mild, soft tannins, making it ideal for near-term consumption. Annual production is between 12,000 and 16,000 bottles, depending on the vintage.
