The estate's 2005 Modus is a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It, too, offers masses of ripe, dark fruit with pretty Sangiovese aromatics that emerge from its full-bodied frame. This internationally-styled wine is technically well made and pleasing but ideally it could offer a more distinctive personality. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2015. These are solid wines from Ruffino, yet I am convinced the estate could do much better if the winemaking team weren't so preoccupied with making deeply-colored, overly concentrated, internationally-styled wines.
