A step up the quality ladder is the 2005 Show Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon from the revitalized G.I. of Coonawarra. The fruit was sourced mainly from an estate vineyard planted in 1982. The wine was aged for 15 months in a mix of new and used French and American barriques. Purple-colored, it reveals an enticing bouquet of cedar, pencil lead, spice box, black currant, and blackberry with a hint of eucalyptus in the background. On the palate there are layers of savory flavor, good depth and concentration, and enough ripe tannin to evolve for 3-4 years. This lengthy effort should be at its best from 2011 to 2020.
