The Bussola 2011 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Vigneto Alto TB goes overboard for me, both in terms of alcohol content (registered here at a whopping 17%) and general bulkiness. To call this a bold wine is an understatement. The bouquet shows explosive notes of syrupy black fruit and cooked jam with exotic spice and fragrant redwood. This is a limited production of 3,096 bottles. 2011 was a very hot and dry vintage with scorching winds blowing up from Africa throughout much of the summer.

A bold, full-bodied red, with a rich nose of tar, loamy earth and smoke meeting ripe blackberry, violet, plum sauce and milled white pepper on the palate. Shows grippy tannins, but they're wrapped in the palate's juicy flavor range, lending sculpted weight and definition without bulk.
