The 1999 Condrieu de Poncins is impressive. The wine is from a vineyard planted in decomposed granite soil. It is a well-built, muscular effort that should age for 3-4 years. This 1999 is delineated and rich, with a liquid minerality intertwined with honeyed orange, peach, and apricot characteristics. It is a full-bodied, powerful effort.
Francois Villard is one of the brightest lights emerging from the northern Rhone.
