While the 1978 may give it more than a run for its money, the 1985 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Cros Parantoux is one of the great bottles of Henri Jayer's illustrious career, unfurling in the glass with a pristine bouquet of sweet raspberries, peonies, orange zest, licorice, vine smoke and nutmeg. Medium to full-bodied, suave and elegant, it's pure, seamless and impeccably balanced, with incredible depth without weight, masterful precision for a wine of this age, and a long, perfumed finish.
