The 2006 Langhe Nebbiolo offers the best value of these entry-level wines. There is gorgeous purity in the floral, super-ripe fruit and sweet herbs, which is framed nicely by firm oak tannins. This is a serious Nebbiolo in need of cellaring for the tannins to melt away, yet it offers tons of potential. Once again, the Langhe Nebbiolo is the hidden gem in this lineup. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2021.
Giorgio Rivetti has another set of very solid wines on his hands with his 2005 Barbarescos. The wines have always shown terrific balance and are just a notch or two below his 2004s.
