The 2010 Dolcetto d’Alba Pian Balbo is a beautiful wine loaded with varietal character. Sweet, balsamic notes add complexity on the textured finish. In 2010 the Dolcetto has a bit more stuffing than is typically the case, which adds richness, character and personality. Some of that may be attributable to the source of the fruit. Colla is replanting some of their vineyards in Barbaresco. The 2010 Dolcetto was made from the family’s Cascina Drago property just outside Alba. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2014. This strong set of wines from Poderi Colla is capped off by a truly great version of the flagship Barbaresco Roncaglie.
