Ghislaine Barthod's 2000 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Aux Beaux Bruns is stunning, and it's one of the loveliest examples of the vintage that I've encountered in some time, bursting from the glass with a pristine bouquet of smoky cherry, black raspberry, anise and wild rose. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and juicy, with a lavish core of fruit, melting tannins, succulent acids and superb purity. This is a fabulous Beaux Bruns, with all of the vintage's merits and none of its disadvantages, and bodes very well for the quality of Ghislaine's other premier crus in 2000.
