Clos St.-Jean holds its wines for a number of years before bottling them. They produce an old, slightly oxidized style of Chateauneuf du Pape with rustic tannin and full body. The fruit frequently has a dried out quality to it - not a characteristic that I find alluring. They are high alcohol, dense, cedary, herb-tinged, mouthfilling wines that others do find attractive. Both the 1993 and 1994 were tasted prior to bottling. They are beefy, spicy wines that will keep for 10-15 years. But, why prolong the bottling and risk additional oxidation of the fruit? No known American importer. Tel. 90.83.71.33; Fax 90.83.50.56
