Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Cras ‘11 has an understated, graceful bouquet that unfolds in the glass: black cherries, sous-bois, cranberry leaf and wet stone scents. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, good acidity and cohesion, but backward and almost surly on the finish, demanding that you don’t come back for two or three years at least. Good potential, so bunker this down for three or four years and it will surely blossom.
