Candied blood oranges and black cherries are found in the nose of the 2000 Vosne-Romanee Les Chaumes. If there could be liquid suede, this wine would be it. Sporting terrific mouth-feel and a dense, lush, medium-bodied personality, it slathers the palate with loads of coffee-laced red cherries. This alluring offering’s finish is suave, sensual, and packed with dark cherries. Drink this beauty over the next 5 years.
Concerning the 2000s, Meo said, “they were exceedingly ripe, like the 1999s, but without the acidity of that vintage. Rot was present, but not an overwhelming problem if you were willing to do what was necessary. The other interesting point is that the grapes had exceedingly thin skins.”
