The 80-100-year old vines of Les Ruchets are planted high on the slopes of Cornas. The 1999 Cornas Les Ruchets reveals toasty new oak in the nose, raising the specter of an internationally styled Cornas. However, once past the oak, this dense purple-colored effort exhibits notes of minerals, pepper, blackberries, and cassis without the uncivilized, rustic tannin Cornas often possesses. This full-bodied 1999 reveals a multi-layered palate, considerable glycerin, outstanding fruit purity, and a long, impressive finish (20-25 seconds). Anticipated maturity: 2004-2015.
NOTE: This wine is from the estate vineyards of Ann and Jean-Luc Colombo.
