The 2009 Salice Salentino Maiana is 90% Negroamaro and 10% Malvasia Nera, aged in large neutral oak. Layers of elegant, refined fruit emerge from this graceful red. Hints of tobacco, leather, licorice and spices develop in the glass, adding further complexity and nuance. This is another huge overachiever within its price range. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2015. Quality continues to improve at this venerable estate. The wines have become far more consistent since the arrival of oeonologist Riccardo Cotarella a few years back.A Leonardo Lo Cascio Selection, Winebow, Montvale, NJ; tel. (201) 445-0620
