The year 1935 was considered very high in acid, with ripening a challenge in the vineyards. Dark garnet with amber at the edge, the wine offers notes of damp cellar, wet forest floor, leafy vegetation and hints of plum and black cherries. Its brightness on the attack is followed by a restrained, rather tart, high-acid wine that is more intellectual than hedonistic. No doubt this vintage will last for another 20 or more years, but will never provide the charm and seductiveness of years such as 1953, or more recently 1989 or 1990.
