The 1947 Beaune 1er Cru Les Grèves Vigne de l'Enfant Jesus is showing brilliantly, soaring from the glass with a deep bouquet of ripe berries, cassis, Agen prune, black truffles, mocha, rich soil tones and licorice. Full-bodied, layered and enveloping, this is a broad and textural wine with an ample core of concentrated fruit, built around ripe acids and meltingly powdery tannins. While Frédéric Weber tells me that this attained fully 15.5% alcohol, it remains seamlessly integrated.
