The 2007 Pujanza Cisma was sourced from an ungrafted, 100+-year-old vineyard producing tiny yields. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it offers up a lightly roasted nose of black fruit compote, incense, truffle, pencil lead, and licorice. Dense, layered, and powerful, this full-bodied behemoth demands 6-8 years of cellaring. It has all the right stuff, but patience is required. Drink this lengthy effort from 2018 to 2037 if not longer.
Bodegas y Vinedos Pujanza, located in Laguardia, Rioja Alavesa, was founded in 1998 by Carlos San Pedro. In 2001 he introduced his first wine, Pujanza, followed by Cisma and Norte, each sourced from a single vineyard.
