The 2013 Block B is a powerful, but still youthful, Syrah that will continue to evolve in the cellar over the next 10-15+ years. It was harvested September 5-7 this vintage and made using 48% whole cluster. Winemaker Jordan Fiorentini says she began experimenting with fermentation and maturation in clay amphorae this year; this iteration was aged for 17 months in 49% new oak barrels, puncheons and 12% amphorae. It takes time to open in the glass to cassis and hints of blue fruit with nuances of violet and spearmint. The palate is still sporting plush, iron-laced fruits with just enough freshness to extend the floral finish. 449 cases were made.
