The 1989 Extended Tirage Brut has been recently disgorged. Its grilled toast and anise aromas lead to a rich, complex, graham cracker, toast, yeast, and mineral-flavored personality. This is certainly one of the oldest domestic sparkling wines still in current release. As expected. it is very dry and somewhat oxidized with woody, Sherry- cask scents and flavors. The fruit, though subdued, has some pleasant baked apple and vanilla cracker components, and it finishes with a pleasant persistence. There were 1,011 six-bottle cases produced.——P.G.(12/1/2001)—— 87
