The 2001 Gran Reserva is an interesting blend of 40% Carinena, 30% Garnacha, and 30% Tempranillo. Dark ruby-colored, with more mineral and earth than the preceding wines (likely due to the Carignan component), it also offers attractive spice and black fruit aromas. Medium-bodied and well-balanced, it has a solid core of fruit leading to a moderately long, pure finish. Drink this well-made wine over the next 4-5 years.
Abrazo’s offerings from Carinena are all good values.
