The 2010 Lytos is a blend of 60% Carinena, 25% Garnacha Tinta, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Syrah aged in oak for one year. It has a nose of blackberries and cassis with abundant oak-related aromas, sweet spices, vanilla, cinnamon, clove and hints of smoke, roasted coffee and chocolate. The palate shows some grainy tannins and good acidity, with a dry finish. The drying sensation makes me hesitate. Drink 2014-2018. The plush 2009 Lytos is a blend of 45% Carinena, 35% Garnacha, 15% Syrah and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon from terraced hillside vines, aged in 95% French and 5% American oak. It has an opulent, sumptuous bouquet dominated by the new oak (60%) but with sufficient dark cherry and blackberry fruit to support it. The palate is full-bodied with succulent tannins on the entry. It is well-balanced, unashamedly modern in style with a plush creamy, silky smooth finish. Drink now-2018. Agnes de Cervera was established in 2003, upon which they purchased vines around Porrera to create a single 95-hectare estate, “Les Argeles.” In 2010, this was augmented by the acquisition of a 40-hectare estate in southern Priorat, “La Solana” near El Molar, that included 23 hectares under vine as well as cellar facilities. Blackcurrant and damson fruit aromas. Good, clean, spicy fruit with refreshing acidity, chewy tannins and cedar, cinnamon notes on the finish. Reminiscent of pavlova. Complex wine. Alc: 14.5%.
