The 2004 Blackbutt is the winery’s flagship. Composed of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Malbec, and 5% Cabernet Franc, it was aged for 30 months in French oak, 50% new. Dark ruby-colored, it offers an excellent perfume of pain grille, cassis, and black currants. This leads to an elegantly styled Bordeaux look-alike with a smooth texture, layered flavors, and a long, pure finish. It has enough structure to evolve for 6-8 years and should drink well through 2024. Alkoomi is located in the Frankland River region of Western Australia which is noted for its cool climate viticulture.Importer: Jane Delaney, The Ravensvale Group, Naples, FL; alkoomiwines.com.au Also tasted: 2007Late Harvest “White Label” (85)
