The estate grown Shiraz and Viognier for the 2010 Frankland River Shiraz Viognier were co-fermented and the wine was then matured for 18 months in French oak hogsheads prior to bottling. Medium garnet-purple colored, it has aromas of warm black plums, blueberry preserves, charcoal, pepper and spice box with touches of fertile loam and dried herbs. Full bodied and generously fruited with expressive dark berry and spice flavors, the rich flesh is well supported by a medium level of rounded tannins and balanced acid leading into a long savory finish with a peachiness coming through. The 2009 Shiraz Viognier has a medium-deep garnet-purple color and offers notes of kirsch, mulberries and black cherries with a fragrant peach blossom and allspice undercurrent. The medium-full bodied palate is generously fruited and well structured with very high acid and a medium level of velvety tannins, finishing long. The 2009 Shiraz has a medium-deep garnet-purple color and slightly reduced tar and rubber aromas giving way to notes of black raspberries, ripe cherries and blackberries over cracked black pepper and Provence herbs. Very crisp in the medium bodied mouth, it has a medium level of rounded tannins and just enough taut berry and pepper flavor, finishing long. Drink this one now to 2015.
