The 2015 Carmignano Santa Cristina In Pilli is based on Sangiovese but has other red grapes blended within such as Canaiolo Nero, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Pugnitello and Colorino. The wine is austere and tight with subtle fruit flavors backed by more intense notes of spice, leather and smoked tar. It is slow to open and slightly dark and mysterious in personalty. Drink this wine within the next five years or so. Santa Cristina in Pilli is a single-vineyard site with limestone Alberese soils and 30-year-old vines.

This bright red, exhibiting cherry, licorice, wild herb and tobacco flavors, is balanced toward the firm, dry side now, but lingers, finding an equilibrium in the end. Drink now through 2018. 1,833 cases made, 383 cases imported.??–BS??Region: Italy / Carmignano Select to Add

The Fattoria Ambra 2013 Carmignano Santa Cristina in Pilli is a luscious red wine with softer contours compared to many of its peers in this cool vintage. The wine is a nicely interpreted blend of mostly Sangiovese with smaller parts Canaiolo Nero, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pugnitello and Colorino. This blended red opens to a dark ruby appearance with aromas of sour cherry, spice and dry tobacco leaf. The mouthfeel is compact and very dry. Some 25,000 bottles are produced. This is a great value buy from Tuscany.

A slight gamy note enhances the blackberry and plum fruit in this dense, chunky red. The structure is vibrant and concentrated, with moderate length. Best from 2017 through 2023. 1,665 cases made.??–BS??Region: Italy / Carmignano Select to Add
