The 2011 Single Vineyard Syrah has a simple, clean, pastille-like nose with dark cherries and blackberry. The palate is nicely balanced with firm, dry tannins and sufficient juicy black fruit underneath that lends it a satisfying supple texture. The acidity lends it race and tension, although it needs more finesse on the finish. Drink 2013-2018. Vina Anakena was found by Felipe Ibanez and Jorge Gutierrez who planted their first vines in 1999 in Alto Cachapoal, where they presently own 165 hectares. This is augmented by 148 hectares in Leyda and a further 100 hectares in Colchagua. Although none appeared to aspire to anything extraordinary, at these reasonable prices, that is not something I would hold against them.Importer: Evaton, Stamford, CT; tel. (203) 968-8220
