The Andrea Oberto 2018 Barbera d'Alba Giada is inky dark in appearance with a heavy aroma of steeped tea, dried blackberry and dark plum. There is a lot of power in this wine (with 15% alcohol), complete with thick texture and heavy black fruit sweetness on the close.

This wine pours from the bottle with inky dark intensity. The Andrea Oberto 2017 Barbera d'Alba Giada is endowed with very concentrated fruit, a powerful 15% alcohol content and lots of toasted oak and spice. The actual fruit is buried under the weight of all those hot-vintage characteristics. The sweet spice and cinnamon of the wood aging go too far in my opinion. This vintage is less balanced overall. 5,600 bottles were released.

The 2016 Barbera d'Alba Giada is a rich and darkly concentrated wine that presents inky fruit aromas of dried blackberry and black currant. Fruit is drawn from a site with clay and limestone soils. Like the other wines in this flight from Andrea Oberto, this wine sports a flat, open-knit character with more baritone notes than high notes. The acidity is drawn down a notch and the fruit weight or fiber is increased as a result. This is a deceptively big wine, with a 15% alcoholic content and lots of heavy black fruit. Some 5,500 bottles were made.

The 2008 Barbera d’Alba Giada emerges from 60-year-old vines in La Morra. It is a deep, fleshy wine with good balance and density. This is a strong showing for a vintage that was quite challenging for Barbera. The Giada spent 18 months in 100% new oak barrels. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2014.
