The 2001 Merlot Seven Hills Vineyard exhibits loads of sweet, rich fruit in its deep, dense, and long personality. Its core is dominated by cherries and raspberries, yet plums make an appearance in this lovely offering's lengthy finish. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2015. Much improved over the previous vintage, this is a fragrant wine perfumed with cherry/berry scents and light spice. The core of sweet cherry fruit is more open and generous, more approachable than the Red Mountain vineyard wines, which are more cellarworthy. ——P.G.(9/1/2002)—— 92

The 1999 Merlot Seven Hills is medium to dark ruby-colored and offers cherry, blackberry, and vanilla aromas intermingled with hints of candied orange rind. Tangy red and black currants as well as juicy blackberries are found in this medium to full-bodied wine. It is powerful, concentrated, and has a firm tannic backbone. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2012.
