That 2008 Pinot Noir Anomaly – rendered with grapes from Martha Clara Vineyards – offers luscious cherry fruit tinged with pink grapefruit rind and rose petal. Juicy and silken on the palate, it finishes with a touch of astringency but also fine fruit persistence and genuinely bracing refreshment uncommon in Pinots I have tasted from Long Island, or indeed from most other places in the New World. I suspect this will be best enjoyed over the next 2-3 years. Shinn winemaker Anthony Nappa is developing his own project with Pinot Noir. It was the less expensive of his two recent releases that impressed me.Tel. (631) 804-0367 (the number of Shinn Estate, where Nappa wines can be purchased)
