A bit cloudy in appearance, the 2011 Nero di Troia shows perfumed tones of rose potpourri, pressed violets and dark, jammy fruit. The wine is aged in oak for 12 months but the wood tones are barely noticeable. It shows moderate structure with polished tannins and a pretty blast of freshness that is the signature trait of this native grape.

Made with organically grown grapes, this 100% expression of Nero di Troia offers cheerful aromas of cherry, blackberry, spice and tobacco. The mouthfeel is dense and sandy because of the firm nature of the tannins.——M.L.(3/1/2009)—— 87
