Of particular interest is the 2008 Ribera Blend, made up of 50% Tempranillo, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Malbec. Although the wine will not remind you of Ribera del Duero (there is very little Cabernet Sauvignon grown in that Spanish DO), it is a savory offering with an enticing nose of earthy minerals, Asian spices, incense, violets, and blackberry. Medium-bodied, spicy, and nicely proportioned, it has enough structure to evolve for 2-3 years and will drink nicely through 2020. It displays very well the potential for Tempranillo in eastern Washington. Apex at Alder Ridge is a winery located in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA making wine entirely from estate-grown fruit. They are all limited production wines with less than 200 cases of each cuvee. The winemaker is Peter Devison and the winery is owned by Precept Brands. By the way, the winery has opened a tasting room in Woodinville to provide easier access to their wines.www.alderridge.com
