This is a benchmark wine for Argiolas and indeed for Sardinia in general. The 2014 Turriga is a blend of mostly Cannonau with smaller parts Carignano, Bovale and Malvasia Nera. This vintage offers a little less intensity compared to editions from more balanced and less challenging vintages; however, this expression from the wet and cool 2014 harvest offers loads of dark fruit intensity with prune, plum and Sardinian myrtle berry (which is very similar to a blueberry). This wine could stand up to Sardinia's celebrated aged pecorino. I am suggesting a ten-year drinking window, more or less.

This is a benchmark wine in Sardinia. The 2013 Turriga flows from the bottle with sun-drenched generosity and plum-like ripeness. This celebrated blend is composed of 85% Cannonau, 5% Carignano, 5% Bovale and 5% Malvasia Nera. It ages in oak for up to two years. This vintage most certainly delivers the goods with intensity and a proud sense of exuberance. Those black fruit nuances are smooth, velvety and soft. Exotic spice, tobacco and leather reach just the right level without going overboard. The mouthfeel is broad and all encompassing.

This is a landmark wine from one of Sardinia's leading producers. The 2011 Turriga is a blend of Cannonau, Malvasia Nera, Carignano and Bovale Sardo aged in French oak for two years. The wine represents a brainstorming between the Argiolas family and famed Italian enologist Giacomo Tachis. This is a beautiful edition of the celebrated wine from a hot vintage that shows extra aromatic intensity and softness in the mouth. Austere aromas of dark fruit, plum and blackberry segue to spice, licorice and balsam herb. Despite the wine's richness and opulence, it never feels overripe or too heavy.

The 2010 Turriga is one of the best wines to come from Sardinia this year. This compelling blend of Cannonau (85%) with Carignano, Bovale and Malvasia Nera is especially focused and intense in 2010. The wine shows extreme balance with seamless integration of black fruit, spice, crushed stone and leather. Yet you also get a pinch of wild rusticity that grounds this wine in a sense of place. Allow Turriga a few more years of cellar aging.

The flagship 2007 Isola dei Nuraghi Turriga comes across as quite restrained in this vintage. It possesses lovely inner sweetness, silky tannins and terrific overall balance. Sage, rosemary, freshly cut flowers and licorice emerge over time, adding layers of dimension to the fruit. The medium-bodied style is highly appealing, especially since Turriga is rarely this accessible upon release. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2022.
