The 2010 Barricadiero is a pure expression of Montepulciano with an absolutely inky black appearance that rolls thickly around the inside of the glass. It’s a stunner with beautifully etched aromas of black fruit, dried prune, leather, spice, rum cake, candied cherry and black licorice. There is an inherent firmness here that holds the wine together tightly, followed by fleshy black fruit and deep concentration.

The 2009 Barricadiero sees a small percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon added to Montepulciano. Impenetrable concentration and thick texture is woven together by black fruit, spice, leather and candied fruit. The tannins show a polished gleam compared to the 2010 vintage and the wine’s persistence is extremely impressive.
