There’s much more to the 2011 Avgvstvs Chardonnay, and while it is still marked by the oak it has an attractive bouquet of candied orange peel, chalk and ripe yellow fruit and a very tasty palate, quite full, with fine acidity and clean flavors, with a pleasant honeyed, toffee finish. The 2010 Ayvgystys Chardonnay comes from the same vineyard, with four and a half months aging in new French oak. It has a well-defined, subtle almond and hazelnut-scented bouquet reminiscent of a fine Meursault. The palate is well-balanced, with touches of dried orange peel and toffee apple on the entry. It has very good acidity and impressive focus towards the finish, where the oak is nicely integrated, content to take a back seat role. This is a well-crafted Chardonnay. Svperb. (Ha Ha!). The 2007 Chardonnay was fermented in new French oak after which it spent four additional months in barrel with batonnage. The nose sports aromas of toasty oak, apple, poached pear, and banana. On the palate the oak is nicely integrated and additional tropical notes become apparent. This lush, lengthy Chardonnay will provide pleasure for another three years.
