The unoaked 2021 Sicilia Grillo Lalùci is transparent and luminous in appearance with candied lemon, apricot, tart grapefruit and caramel. The Grillo grapes tend to oxidize quickly, and I think you see that happening here. It ends with nutty aromas and almond marzipan. Fruit comes from a site with chalky limestone soils, and exactly 39,769 bottles were released.

This Sicilian Grillo offers lots of energy and easy-drinking freshness, aged for just four months in steel and another three in the bottle before release. With fruit from southern Sicily, not too far from the Greek temples of Agrigento, the Baglio del Cristo di Campobello 2020 Sicilia Grillo Lalùci is generous in its servings of exotic pineapple and candied papaya. It would be a fun pool-party wine with some stuffed grape leaves and feta slices. Exactly 38,349 bottles were made.

The Baglio del Cristo di Campobello 2018 Sicilia Grillo Lalùci has a moment of sweetness that reminds me of walking through a lemon grove. This is a very pure expression of this indigenous grape, seeing just four months in steel and three in the bottle. The mouthfeel is soft and slightly sweet. This no-fuss white would pair nicely with crab cakes. There were 37,247 bottles made.

The 2017 Sicilia Grillo Lalùci (with 32,982 bottles made) is a bright and vibrant white wine. The bouquet is direct and fragrant with citrus, passion fruit and crushed mineral. The effects of the hot vintage do come through because there are brief moments of heaviness on the bouquet as well. The wine finishes with citrusy tartness.

Sicilian Grillo really is the white wine of the moment and the 2015 Sicilia Grillo Lalùci is yet another example of why I think this is true. The wine is fragrant and expressive with bright fruit aromas, almond blossom and a touch of natural runner. At the back, the wine offers refreshing tones of tangerine and peach. The results are balanced and clean.
