Three barrel samples tasted included the 2009 Dolinsek Ranch Heirloom, an unusual combination of 60% Zinfandel and the rest Charbono, Petite Sirah, Alicante and a few other varietals. No shy wine at 16.2% alcohol, it is a dense, savory, delicious red that is loaded with roasted meat, spicy pepper and red as well as black fruit characteristics and cuts an unctuous, juicy, thick swath across the palate. This exuberant, flamboyant 2009 should drink nicely for 5-7 years. Ravenwood’s renowned Joel Peterson must be proud of what his son, Morgan, has achieved with the Bedrock Wine Company in such a short period of time. These wines continue to provide super-impressive quality at realistic prices. Moreover, they tend to be creative blends that should invite more and more California winemakers to go down this path rather than sticking to single varietals.Tel. (707) 364-8763
