Brambleberry, orange-peel and dark-cherry aromas follow through to a medium body with extremely polished, fine tannins that melt into the wine. Classy and pretty. Very drinkable now, but better in a year or two.

Packaged in a beautiful bottle with a gold label and embossed glass, the Belpoggio 2015 Brunello di Montalcino is a "familiar face" among Sangiovese fans. This is a dark but essentially mid-weight expression with good fruit intensity and a great pair with agnolotti alla toscana (or veal ravioli). Black cherry and plum segue to spice, tar and soft medicinal herb. The wine glides smoothly and without a care over the palate. Some 16,000 bottles were made.

The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is a lush and layered expression that shows a dark and rich side of Sangiovese. Sweet fruit and Morello cherry lift first from the glass with impressive intensity. After a few brief moments, the wine begins to show delicate nuances of cinnamon, nutmeg, grilled herb, ash and smoke. Ultimately, the wine delivers more bang to the nose and follows with a tight, streamlined mouthfeel. I would suggest keeping this bottle in your cellar for three to five more years before popping the cork.

Enrico Martellozzo's 2009 Brunello di Montalcino comes from a five-hectare vineyard located a stone-s throw away from the sun-drenched abbey at Castelnuovo dell'Abate. In line with the characteristics of this subzone that include darker more structured wines, Belpoggio-s rendition is deeply laden with ripe fruit, clove and baking spice. The wine does not boast huge complexity or any great degree of finesse, but it is a well-made expression with a friendly, upfront and immediate style that works well.
