The Benito Ferrara 2015 Irpinia Aglianico Quattro Confini is a nicely balanced wine that ushers forth a pretty ensemble of black fruit, cassis and plum. The approach is simple, direct and streamlined. The wine shows some astringency on the close, but that tightness does not subtract from what is otherwise an accessible red wine to pair with succulent beef or pork dishes. Some 8,000 bottles were made. One-third of the wine ages in medium-toast French oak, and the rest goes into steel vat for 12 months. That low price is another reason to recommend this easygoing red.
