Juicy and lively, with racy acidity and medium-bodied richness, the 2014 Chardonnay Coastview Vineyard is 100% Chardonnay that spent 11 months in 22% new French oak. Giving up plenty of orchard fruits, hints of toasted nuts, buttered citrus and brioche, it benefits from a decant and will drink nicely for 4-5 years, if not longer. This is a classy Chardonnay that's made in a more lean, fresh style.

My favorite of the two Chardonnays is the 2013 Chardonnay Coastview Vineyard. From a cool site in Monterey County, it gives up crisp orchard fruits, citrus, blossom, white flowers and hints of brioche (it spent 15 months in French oak) to go with a medium-bodied, fresh, classically styled feel on the palate. Energetic, vibrant and almost racy with bright acidity, it was bottled unfined and unfiltered. There's only 200 cases, but it's superb and well worth tracking down.

Light gold and slightly cloudy in color, the 2012 Chardonnay Coastview Vineyard is a medium to full-bodied, balanced and decidedly rich effort that gives up classy white peach, honey blossom, brioche and subtle nutty aromas and flavors. It’s loaded with fruit, yet it has solid mid-palate depth and is balanced and beautifully drinkable. Enjoy it over the coming 3-4 years. The only white I was able to taste, the 2011 Chardonnay Coastview Vineyard is gorgeous. Deep, rich and layered, with ripe golden fruit, brioche, lemon curd and vanilla, it flows onto the palate with rich, supple texture that carries good overall freshness, big fruit and plenty of toasted nut notes on the finish. A rich, upfront Chardonnay that’s beautifully made, it should be consumed over the coming couple of years. Drink now-2015.
