The outstanding 2001 Chardonnay Wilkening Vineyard Reserve (1,130 cases) may be one of the best bargains in California Chardonnay. No malolactic was performed in order to retain its focus and vigor, and the fruit was picked extremely ripe. The wine spent nine months on its lees before being bottled. A beautiful perfume of ripe citrus, honeysuckle, peach, and earth is followed by a full-bodied, concentrated, powerful yet graceful Chardonnay with pure, vivid fruit. It should drink well for 4-5 years, possibly longer. Tel. (805) 686-9922
