The 2008 Vijiriega (an indigenous grape) was blended with 10% Chardonnay and spent 1 month in French oak. Medium straw-colored, it displays a nose of mineral/chalk, pear, and apple. Slightly austere on the palate with crisp acidity and ample white fruit flavors, this balanced effort will drink well over the next 12-18 months. Veleta is the project of Dr. Juan and Nola Palomar. Vines were planted in the obscure DO of Granada in 1992 and the winery began in 1998 with an expansion in 2004. The estate is 55 acres with production at 7000 cases annually.Importer: JNJ International, Dayton, OH
