Bodegas Estancia Piedra has a total of 60 hectares of vineyard in Toro. Their entry level Toro, known as Piedra Azul, is a notable value and the 2006 and 2007 are listed in the Best Buy chart at the end of this report as is their tasty 2007 Rosado.. The 2002 Piedra Seleccion is 100% Tinta de Toro from 40-year-old vines. It spent 16 months in French and American oak, 67% new, followed by 24 months in bottle prior to release. Purple-colored, it offers a fragrant bouquet of toasty oak, pencil lead, and blackberry. On the palate, the wine is slightly compact and lacks depth. It has some structure and may evolve for a few years but I’d opt for drinking it over the near term.Importer: Tom George, Frontier Wine Imports, Dover, NJ; tel. (973) 328-4500
