The 2011 Martue Chardonnay comes from the estate’s 81-hectare vineyard in Toledo, and after 20% of the fruit is fermented in new oak barrels, it sees two and a half months in French new oak. It has a pleasant bouquet of apple blossom, grapefruit and undergrowth that is well-defined and expands nicely in the glass. The palate is well-balanced with plenty of tropical-tinged fruit, traces of papaya and pineapple complementing the apple and fresh pear flavors. The acidity is nicely judged, but I just wanted a little more complexity on the finish. Still, this is a well-crafted Chardonnay. Drink now-2017.
