The 2004 Chateldon Cabernet Sauvignon contains 10% Merlot and was aged for 14 months in French and American oak. Dark ruby red in color, it sports an attractive perfume of cedar, cassis, cherry, violets, and incense. Medium-bodied, sweetly-fruited, forward, and with a sense of elegance, this savory effort has enough structure to provide pleasure for another 5-6 years. It is an outstanding value. Not a lot of pop or life to the nose. What there is, however, is mostly light, herbal and pickled. Flavorwise, this shy wine settles on dry cherry and herbs, while the finish is rooty and leafy.
