I was truly impressed by the elegance, finesse and balance of the 2019 El Bosque, which shows very integrated oak and velvety tannins. It comes from deep gravel soils that produce powerful wines, but somehow this 2019 is very elegant, and it's already approachable. For Marcos Eguren, this shows what El Bosque is. This matured in new oak barrels, 95% of them French and the rest from central Europe. 5,000 bottles were filled in July 2021.

2016 was a cool and slow-ripening year, and the 2016 El Bosque reflects those qualities, combining power and elegance. It's Tempranillo from only one vineyard, planted in 1973. It fermented in new French and central European oak barrels for 18 months. It's a serious and structured wine that has a subtle nose, with integrated oak, combining power and elegance. It has very good freshness, and it has the floral and red fruit character of the 2016 vintage. This wine should have a long life in bottle. I love the 2016 vintage here. 5,000 bottles were filled in July 2018.

2015 is a ripe and powerful vintage, and the 2015 El Bosque shows it. It's open, expressive, hedonistic and a little intoxicating, with the concentration of fruit to hide the aromas from the élevage. The fruit is in the foreground and the spices and smoky notes are in the background. It's more open, expressive and balanced than the 2014. A great vintage for El Bosque, one of the finest ever. 5,000 bottles were filled in August 2017.

The 2014 El Bosque is named after a vineyard overlooking the Ebro River, on the left bank on alluvial and gravel soils south of San Vicente de la Sonsierra. This vineyard always produces very powerful and concentrated wines, which the Eguren family likes to show last, after all of the other reds from their different projects. It matured in new French and Centro European oak barrels for 18 months. As I saw with other wines from the Eguren family, when comparing 2014 with 2015, the 2014 is more austere, closed and tannic, with more evident influence from the oak with plenty of spicy and toasty aromas. The palate reveals plenty of chalky, dusty tannins, like the wines might need more time and/or powerful food. There is a purity in the 2015s that I hardly find in the 2014s. 5,000 bottles were filled in August 2016.

I visited the vineyard that names the 2013 El Bosque, a slope overlooking the Ebro River on the left bank; the vines are planted on alluvial and gravel soils south of San Vicente de la Sonsierra. This vineyard always produces very powerful and concentrated wines, which the Eguren family likes to show after all of the other reds from their different projects. Somehow I felt less vibrancy here compared with other 2013s, and the powerful character of the site seems stronger than that of the year. Drainage is so good that even in a rainy year like 2013, the effect is not as noticeable as in other vineyards. There is some creaminess from the oak and the palate is an explosion of ripe black fruit with plenty of fine tannins. 4,300 bottles produced and bottled in July 2015.
