The 2007 Boria is made up of 70% Syrah with the balance equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It was aged for 16 months in French oak sur lie prior to bottling. An earthy minerality, balsamic, fresh herbs, spice box, and black currant aromas inform the nose of a ripe, savory, concentrated wine with a slightly rustic personality. It is likely to evolve for 2-3 years and will deliver prime drinking from 2013 to 2022.
Sumarroca produces both still and sparkling wines in the DO of Penedes (and Cava). Two other Cava entries were reviewed in the previous issue in my Focus on Catalunya report.
Importer: Peter Deutsch, Spain Wine Collection, Congers, NY; Tel. (631) 833-6102; the Cavas are also imported by Tom George, Frontier Wines, Dover, NJ
