Deep and layered with aromas of dark berries, sweet spices, toasted walnuts, cocoa and moist earth with some tarry undertones to it. Medium- to full-bodied, firm and structured with chalky tannins and an intense, succulent dark fruit character. Long finish. Dark spices and chocolate notes at the end. Better after 2025.

The Borgo Salcetino 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione I Salci reveals dark fruit, earthy tones, tobacco and lots of oak toast and smoke. This is a full-bodied wine that is a little heavy on the sweet spice resulting from 30 months in barrique. But the vintage shows enough power and natural concentration to iron out the results on the palate. Only 3,300 bottles were made.

The oak-fermented 2015 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione I Salci is a robust and rich expression from a warm vintage. The blend here is 95% Sangiovese and 5% Canaiolo (aged in barrique for 30 months). This is a soft and accessible Tuscan red with fresh aromas of cherry and blackberry followed by spice, leather and moist gardening soil. This wine boasts a mid-weight approach with an extra dose of texture and volume in this sunny vintage. Only 5,300 bottles were made. There are some dry oak tannins on the close that still need time to integrate.
