Composed of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Shiraz, 7.5% Malbec and 6.5% Merlot, the 2009 Tamblyn has a deep garnet-purple color, offering pronounced notes of kirsch, cassis cordial and warm raspberries with hints of lavender, milk chocolate and a touch of cedar. Medium to full-bodied, it gives just enough vanilla and spice-laced, warm berry flavors in the mouth, with medium-high acidity and a medium level of velvety tannins, finishing long. The 2007 Tamblyn is a blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Shiraz, 11% Malbec, and 10% Merlot aged in a mix of new and used French and American oak for 19 months. Aromas of cigar box, incense, Asian spices, and assorted black fruits lead to a medium to full-bodied wine already revealing some complexity. Sweetly-fruited, savory, ripe, and balanced, it will continue to blossom over the next 1-2 years although it can be enjoyed now. It is an outstanding value.
